Matt Sotelo joined Petra in 2013, just as the firm was launching Petra Growth Fund III. With 16+ years of experience investing in high-growth healthcare services companies, he has built his career around backing exceptional teams in the sector. Alongside healthcare, he invests in animal health and education companies.

Matt comes from several generations of physicians, and that background shapes how he invests: he believes providing high-quality care for patients is the first goal of any healthcare business, along with creating a positive environment for the providers who deliver it.

At Petra, Matt develops investment theses around promising niches in healthcare services, identifies platform opportunities within them, and recruits the executives and board members who can bring those ideas to life. Once a company joins the Petra portfolio, he partners closely with its management team to fuel growth and position the business for a successful exit.

He currently serves on the boards of ABS Kids, Centerline Healthcare Partners, Etairos Health, American Vascular Associates, Support, Inc., Acute Behavioral Health, Keystone Specialty Pharmacy, Sunbridge Home Health Care, RD Nutrition Consultants, Ascend Learning Partners, and Cultura Veterinary Network.

Before Petra, Matt was with Marwit Capital, a private equity firm in Newport Beach, California, and began his career in investment banking at Houlihan Lokey in Los Angeles. He holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Southern California.
